The Pokémon Company’s multiplatform MOBA Pokémon Unite is ending service in Belgium and the Netherlands on November 30th, 2025.
While that gives players in both countries more than a year remaining with the game, all in-app purchases will cease from October 31st, 2024, giving fans just one more month to buy Aeos Gem and Unite’s subscription service.
United no more
While The Pokémon Company or Unite developer TiMi Studio have not officially explained why they will close Unite in Belgium and the Netherlands next year, both countries are known for their strict regulations regarding gambling and loot box mechanics in video games.
While the Netherlands is pursuing an outright ban on loot boxes, the mechanic has long been illegal in Belgium, impacting other big titles like Activision Blizzard’s Diablo Immortal.
As for Unite, by ceasing all in-app purchases in a month, The Pokémon Company will no longer run any litigious risks in those regions, but naturally, this also means the MOBA won’t be monetised there.
Still, fans in both countries will be able to use their purchased goods for another year and continue playing in a free-to-play capacity for the time being, given a 14-month swan song with the game.
End of service
“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to end service for Pokémon Unite in Belgium and the Netherlands from November 30, 2025,” the Pokémon Unite website reads.
“As of November 30, 2025, service for Pokémon Unite will end in Belgium and the Netherlands. The app will no longer be available to download on mobile devices or Nintendo Switch beyond that date.
“In-game items, including Aeos Gems and Subscriptions, will no longer be available for purchase from October 31st, 2024. Please ensure to use all in-game items before November 30th, 2025.”
Pokémon Unite will be four years old by the time its service ends in Belgium and the Netherlands. Currently, neither region makes up more than 3% of the title’s mobile revenue, nor are they among the top five markets for downloads, according to AppMagic data.
Instead, the US and Japan are Unite’s most lucrative audiences, helping push the MOBA to $83 million by the time of its third-anniversary celebration.
