Nexon America and the publisher behind the pixelated scuba-diving hit Dave the Diver has been impacted by layoffs with a “small number” of staff being let go.
First reported by Game Developer, the company doesn’t exactly disclose how many staff have been laid off, but a statement sent to Game Developer does say that they are hiring to fill out roles for a new development team.
The layoff is also part of a restructuring plan that was announced earlier this month, hence the new development team being formed.
“The re-organisation includes the elimination of a small number of roles, with severance offered to those leaving. However, Nexon America is now hiring to fill out the new development team, including engineers and designers,” Nexon said in its statement.
It’s a wonder as to why those being laid off weren’t instead transferred into the new development team being formed, but then again it’s a wonder why the industry has suffered so many layoffs in the last two years alone.
