Square Enix Currently Has No Plans For Final Fantasy XVI DLC

A day one patch isn’t the only thing that Square Enix doesn’t have planned for Final Fantasy XVI, as game director Hiroshi Takai admitted in an interview with Game Informer that there are currently no plans for DLC to continue the game’s story.

Instead, Takai and game producer Naoki Yoshida say they would rather wait and see if there is player interest in seeing more to the story of Final Fantasy XVI, which is otherwise a “one-off game,” as Yoshida describes it.

“We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and fall in love with Clive’s story and want to see more of the world and more of its characters.

So while we always want to consider DLC or spinoffs or those types of things where you can learn more about the game, first we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision.”

Having DLC to follow the launch of a single-player, story-driven title has become something a lot of players might expect, especially with such a large franchise like Final Fantasy.

With Yoshida and Takai taking the ‘wait and see’ approach, it’ll be interesting to see where fans end up landing, and if the game’s sales numbers help to back up the desire for DLC.
