Apple introduces Game Porting Toolkit for MacOS

Tech giant Apple is once again trying to show that it is serious about games with a new porting framework.

As reported by The Verge, the company is rolling out its Game Porting Toolkit (GPT), which aims to make it easier to bring titles on Windows to MacOS. This is somewhat similar to the Proton initiative that makes games playable on Valve’s Steam Deck.

The Apple GPT is powered by CrossOver, a solution that uses Wine to run Windows titles on MacOS.

“The new Game Porting Toolkit provides an emulation environment to run your existing unmodified Windows game and you can use it to quickly understand the graphics feature usage and performance potential of your game when running on a Mac,” engineering project manager Aiswariya Sreenivassan, who works on graphics over at Apple, said.

This follows Apple bringing out Hideo Kojima at its WWDC conference last week to reveal that Kojima Productions is bringing Death Stranding: Director’s Cut to Mac in the future.
