Battlefront Classic Collection is having a rough Xbox launch

Players heading to a galaxy far, far away to unlock the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection achievements are running into a lot of issues with Aspyr Media’s latest game — and not just because the achievement list isn’t live yet. Server issues, odd controller layouts, and more have led to Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection having a rough Xbox launch, indeed — we don’t expect it’ll be joining our list of the best FPS games on Xbox for a while.

There was a lot of buzz for Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection when it was announced last month, as the original games were fantastic. It launches on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One today for $34.99 / £26.32 / €34.99 with 64-player multiplayer servers, all of the original games’ bonus maps, and the single-player content, but it seems Aspyr hasn’t won over fans… at all.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is having a rough launch

Although it launched today, things aren’t sounding overly positive for Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection already. Over on Steam, it’s already racked up over 1,500 negative reviews, with many users reporting that only three servers were available for the first couple of hours. Once additional servers seemingly came online, players are now reporting instances of stuttering, high ping, some teams being unable to spawn, and more. The consensus seems to be that the game is unplayable, and the upscaled textures aren’t worth the additional price tag.

It’s not looking good on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One either, by the look of it. On our TrueAchievements forums, MetalNuck reports that “all the dedicated servers have a ping above 240ms,” and that they’ve regularly had spawn counters freeze up. The controller layouts appear to be oddly arranged as well, with HunterCH saying that the default layout has gunfire mapped to RB, while weapon swapping is strangely linked to RT. Aspyr also appears to have removed flight inversion, a setting available in the original games, and has added inconsistent toggle sensitivity between both titles.

Things are sounding just as rough on Reddit and from player reviews on Xbox, with one post highlighting that the controller layouts are different for single-player and multiplayer — if you can join multiplayer, that is. Even when in games, the scoring system leads to games lasting for around two minutes, leaving players to fight through the terrible matchmaking once again.

Along with the technical troubles, the game seems to be suffering with balancing issues. Players report that Droidekas are bullet sponges with the power to one-shot you, and shotguns are severely underpowered. With no aim assist on console, gunplay isn’t sitting right with a portion of the community either.

If like many other players, you’ve noticed that achievements have popped up on the screen for you but on Xbox it’s showing that “Achievements aren’t supported” it’s because the list isn’t live yet. Once the list is published, all achievements you’ve unlocked should unlock in the official list retroactively.

Considering that players unlocking the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered achievements seem to be very pleased with Aspyr’s work — it has a TA user score of 4.4/5 — it’s disappointing to hear that Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is experiencing so many problems.

Right now, it sounds like you’re likely best to leave Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection on the side until Aspyr fixes the multitude of issues its players are experiencing. If you happen to be an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, the original games can be played (without achievements or online support) via EA Play — or you can chill with one of the best games on Game Pass for the time being.
