PlayStation Productions has had a bit of a roller coaster start to its attempts at adapting as much of PlayStation’s IP into films and tv shows.
The Uncharted film did well at the box office, but not so well critically. HBO’s The Last Of Us was a success on all accounts, and has 24 Emmy nominations to show for it.
A Twisted Metal tv show is next, and after that a Gran Turismo film, with the latter already sparking strong first impressions from critics, as reviews for the film are likely due any day now.
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff called the film “a solid adaptation,” while Brandon Davis from ComicBook.com added that he found himself “hooked, especially in the second half. Slick racing with creative nods for gamers.”
Others went so far as to call it “one of, it not the greatest video game movie ever.” Which is pretty high praise, though of course the bar for video game based film-adaptations hasn’t historically been set very high.
Hopefully this upcoming film really is that great though, as video game fans are long, long overdue for the kind of film that might be recognized by the Academy.
