What is the TA Open?
The TA Open, as you might have guessed, is loosely based on the game of golf. However, rather than hitting a ball to send your ball down the course, you’ll be unlocking achievements to earn TrueAchievement Difference score (don’t worry, we’ll explain what this is shortly).
Every two days, starting tomorrow, we will reveal the details of a hole on the course, until we have revealed all 9 holes.
Each hole will have three statistics:
- Length of hole
- Par score for the hole
- Maximum TrueAchievement Difference score for each shot
Your goal is to take shots by unlocking achievements to score TAD, and end up with the exact distance of the hole. If you go past the hole by scoring too highly, you will then need to score the amount you have gone past in order to complete the hole (like in golf).
You will have until the midnight UTC on May 4th to complete the full course of 9 holes.
What is TrueAchievement Difference (TAD)?
The TAD for an achievement is the number you get when you subtract the Gamerscore from the TrueAchievement score for an achievement. Some of our users consider it a better proxy for difficulty than TrueAchievement score as very easy achievements are usually worth zero TAD.
How can I see the TrueAchievement Difference (TAD) score for an achievement?
Any buttons you click from the event pages (your progress page, or the new TA Open event panel on your homepage) will take you through to the My Achievements page (which we recently made some big improvements to), with TAD showing in the list of achievements.
You also have a new filter to only show achievements that are above or below a TAD score (make them the same to show only achievements that have exactly that TAD score). This should make it easy for you to choose achievements to go for when you want to take a shot.
If all this sounds quite complicated, it is actually pretty simple when you sit down to play a hole. The details of Hole 1 will be revealed on Saturday April 6th at 10am UTC, and we’ll explain more about how to play then. And if you are logged into the site right now, click This Link to see how easy we’ve made it for you to find achievements with a specific TAD.
Is there a Community Badge for the TA Open?
Yes there is – you’ll need to complete the first 5 holes at a par score or under in order to earn your badge.
