Activision has had to pull a number of maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III due to “unfavorable spawns,” it has announced on X. So far, the Quarry, Rundown, and Scrapyard maps have been pulled from the Hardpoint mode, and in the case of the Quarry, the issue was spawning a team in exactly the same spot after death, offering the opposing team an easy farming opportunity. Over on the Cutthroat playlist, the Karachi map has been removed due to players being spawned alongside enemies. You can see some of the issues players have been facing in the post below (thanks, IGN).
According to a report from Bloomberg, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2 was Sledgehammer Games’ pitch for this year’s title, but it was shelved for Modern Warfare III, which they were under the impression it was an expansion. The report suggests that it put pressure on the teams at Sledgehammer, who had to develop the game in a year-and-a-half due to another game’s delay, instead of the usual three-year cycle Call of Duty games usually have. Apparently, the team felt betrayed, as Activision had promised not to leave them with short development cycles after Call of Duty: Vanguard, but they had to crunch to have Modern Warfare III finished in time.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s troubles have seen it receive unsavory reviews from critics regarding its campaign, received some flak when it was revealed that only “modernized” maps from 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would be included, and then got in the faces of players with an obnoxiously large ad on Xbox. Let’s hope that these maps return swiftly.
