Developers have been adding PS5 Pro support as we get closer to the enhanced console. This time around, Insomniac implements updates to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Spider-Man 2 that take advantage of all the bells and whistles PS5 Pro has to offer.
What are the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2 PS5 Pro updates?
Both the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Spider-Man 2 PS5 Pro updates are very similar as they introduce two new graphics modes, and graphical toggles to the game.
The “performance pro” mode is the default PS5 Pro setting. It targets 60 frames per second while maintaining the image quality of the standard Fidelity mode. It utilizes the enhanced console’s machine learning upscaling technology PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to achieve this. All ray tracing features are on by default, including ray traced reflections on water, and windows. The patch notes state this mode is recommended for most players.
The “fidelity pro” mode is for players who want to experiment with some of its new graphical toggles. This mode targets 30 FPS, and can reach higher frame rates with a combination of tuning the new graphics features, and utilizing a display with VRR and 120 Hz. It is also noted that pedestrian density may be increased in some areas, and hair detail is increased.
The new graphical toggles are tied to its ray tracing features. Specifically, there is a toggle for ray traced reflections which has medium (performance default), and high (fidelity default) settings. The ray traced ambient occlusion toggle can be set to off (performance default), medium, and high (fidelity default).
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has one additional bug fix — missing fur wetness in some cinematics on Corson V.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Spider-Man 2 are just two PlayStation first party games receiving PS5 Pro specific updates. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will also be enhanced with the new console. The PS5 Pro launches on November 7, 2024.
