Roblox to bolster child safety measures

Games platform Roblox is making changes to its child safety features.

That’s according to Bloomberg, which reports that these amendments are coming into effect in November. These changes include kids aged 13 or under having to have parental permission to use the game’s chat features, while those nine and below need to get permission to play games that “moderate violence or crude humour”.

Roblox is also introducing parental accounts that oversee what kids are up to on the platform.

These changes “are part of Roblox’s commitment to making the platform one of the safest online environments for our users, particularly the youngest users,” a rep for the company said.

These amendments come in the wake of a pretty damning report from Hindenberg Research claiming that Roblox did not do enough to stop child predators on its platform. The company denied these reports.

“We firmly believe that Roblox is a safe and secure platform and in the financial metrics we report,” a rep for the company said.
