One of Bethesda’s strengths is its ability to weave a fantastic story, and while the stories can last for many hours, players usually finish the main missions long before ever mopping up the rest of the game’s achievements and side content. With that in mind, we had a look to see which Bethesda game saw the most Xbox players actually finish its story. To do this, we’ve taken a look at global Xbox achievement data for achievements awarded upon completing a game’s story. So, without further ado, let’s see which Bethesda RPG story has been completed the most by Xbox players.
Most completed Bethesda Softworks storylines on Xbox
Starfield
Starfield’s launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC in September 2023 was met with mixed responses from players, so it likely doesn’t come as much of a shock that many players didn’t see Starfield’s story through to its conclusion — 25% of players didn’t even make it out of the starting area. It is worth mentioning, however, that it also had the largest reach of any of the developer’s previous games as well thanks to Xbox Game Pass, so it was highly accessible, offering players a chance to just fire it up, be recorded as a global achievement statistic, and dump it if they didn’t like it. Nevertheless, looking at the One Giant Leap achievement for completing the game’s final main mission, only 10% of global Xbox players who have played Starfield managed to beat the main storyline.
Fallout 4
Fallout 4 is seeing a huge surge of players working through the Fallout 4 achievements (on PC at least) right now due to Amazon’s Fallout show being pretty darn good, so we could see this percentage rise in the coming months. As it stands right now though, just 13% of global Xbox players who have played Fallout 4 have unlocked the Prepared for the Future achievement for deciding the future of the Commonwealth. To unlock this one, a player needs to have finished the main storyline for one of the four factions for the first time, reaching one of the four possible endings.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
While many Elder Scrolls games came before Oblivion, new technology improvements meant Bethesda hit a winning stride when launching this beast on Xbox 360 in 2006. Thanks to a fantastic story, a huge world to explore, a ton of activities to enjoy, and obviously the horse armor DLC, many players jumped in to unlock The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion achievements. Just 17% of global Xbox players who have started Oblivion have managed to unlock the Champion of Cyrodiil achievement for completing the main questline though — perhaps they succumbed to the vicious wounds of Mudcrabs before they could secure the Amulet of Kings?
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Seeing as Oblivion’s successor has been released and re-released on practically every device since its launch on Xbox 360 in 2011, it’s pretty difficult to find a player who hasn’t had a crack at The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim achievements at some point. Looking at the Dragonslayer achievement reveals that around 30% of global Xbox players who played the game on Xbox 360 managed to beat the final mission. That percentage drops considerably for the Xbox One remaster, however, which sees just 9% of global Xbox players having unlocked Dragonslayer in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. That doesn’t come as much of a surprise, though, as many players would have likely gotten their proper Skyrim fix from the original launch.
Fallout 3
Finally, that brings us to the most-completed Bethesda storyline on Xbox: Fallout 3. This entry into the franchise was the first Fallout game developed by Bethesda after acquiring the rights from Interplay in 2007. It was released in 2008 and was the first title in the series to offer 3D graphics and real-time combat, and when Bethesda launched it on Xbox 360, players flocked to unlock the Fallout 3 achievements after the success of Oblivion a couple of years before. Since then, around 35% of global Xbox players who have started Fallout 3 have unlocked the Take it Back! achievement for completing the game’s final mainline mission.
While Fallout: New Vegas wasn’t developed by Bethesda Softworks, we would have added it to this due to its undeniable success. Unfortunately, however, there isn’t a defining Fallout: New Vegas achievement for finishing the game’s storyline, and it instead includes four achievements for completing each of the main faction storylines. We love you, New Vegas, but alas, there isn’t a way to unpick if a player has unlocked more than one of these four final achievements.
If you fancy jumping into any of these fantastic RPGs, they’re all included in Xbox Game Pass — a couple are even on our list of the best Xbox Game Pass games!
